This year Christmas falls smack dab in the middle of Hanukkah. This fact would have meant nothing to me as a child. Now it means a lot…

Please click here to read the rest of this post, in which I wonder about how to instill a sense of wonder in my interfaith kids during the holidays, at Altared Spaces, the recently revamped virtual home of my good friend Rebecca. I am thrilled to share my words on Rebecca’s site, where she offers her beautiful reflections and scrumptious food for thought on parenting, faith, and living a life full of questions.
Thank you, Rebecca, for inviting me over today.

On my way,,,you know…this is just my thing. The holiday SEASON. WHen we think of fellow man.
Saying hi here as I head over to Rebecca’s always transporting space… Meanwhile, Happy Everything—every day. Namaste
Just a quick note to let you know that I love the new look of your blog!
Thanks, Sarah! I love it too. :)
Kristen, I knew I was going to love inviting you into my room at altared spaces, and I knew something special would happen. It did. I kept getting this clarity about what I’m doing here/there and maybe everywhere in my life. For me it is summed up in that image of Kate’s lawn friends lit up and the dreidle and Santa playing together; the pagan theme sounding the tune amidst all the lights.
It’s the togetherness. The Love. Love is more than tolerance. It’s an embrace, a celebration, a longing for ritual that says I want the traditions that anchor you in your life and me in mine.
As my daughter arrives home today from this her first semester of college I am keenly aware of what home is because she is so longing to return to it. It is not a place of dogma, certainty or rules, but a place where we belong. My kiddo wants to come home to a place where she can shower without wearing shoes. I love that image. Where there are no barriers.
I love the altared spaces in our lives because they crawl under my skin and tell me a story that the front door won’t let me access. It is this backdoor living that allows me to know myself more intimately.
Thank you. I am so glad you’ve come.
I’m loving the discussion too. I hope someday that we’ll all have the chance to sit together, surrounded by the lights of the season in this spinning world, and talk more about our altared spaces. For now, though, I’ll just thank you for letting me visit.
